Steps In Acquiring Your Michigan Driver's License

Segment I
- Minimum age of 14 years, 8 months
- 24 hours classroom, 6 hours behind the wheel, 4 hours of observation
- Certificate is issued upon completion, to be taken
to the Secretary of State's Office for validation and issuance of
Level One License
Segment II
- 6 hours classroom based on Defensive Driving
- 30 hours of the required 50 hours behind the wheel
with parent must be completed
- Hold a valid level 1 license for not less than 3 consecutive months before enrollment in Segment II
Road Test
- Minimum of 6 months on Level One License
- 50 hours driving completed with parent behind the wheel
After completion of Road Test, the Secretary of State's office will issue a
Level 2 License and the student may drive without supervision except from
12 midnight to 5 a.m.
After 6 months at Level 2 and twelve consecutive months of violations/crash free
driving, the student has full driving priviledges with no restrictions.
